Maruti Suzuki Sets New Export Record With 1.89 Lakh Units in September 2025

When it comes to India’s automobile industry, Maruti Suzuki has always been a name synonymous with trust, affordability, and sheer scale. September 2025 proved to be a landmark month for the company, as it clocked total sales of 1.89 lakh units, with exports reaching an all-time high. While domestic trends showed some ups and downs, the company’s global performance has sent a strong message about its growing influence in international markets.

A Record-Breaking Month for Exports

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) reported that in September, the company exported 42,204 units—a figure that marks its highest-ever monthly exports. This milestone reflects the increasing global demand for Indian-made cars and strengthens Maruti’s position as one of the leading exporters from the country.

Overall, Maruti Suzuki sold 189,665 units during the month. Out of this, 135,711 units were sold in the domestic market, while exports made up a substantial share of the growth story. Sales to other OEMs also rose to 11,750 units, up from 8,938 in the same month last year, showing steady growth across channels.

Mixed Performance in Domestic Market

Even though exports painted a bright picture, the domestic segment told a more mixed story. Entry-level cars continued to face challenges, reflecting changing consumer demand in India. Mini cars such as the Alto and S-Presso recorded sales of just 7,208 units, down from 10,363 a year ago.

On the brighter side, compact cars like the Baleno, Swift, Dzire, WagonR, Ignis, and Celerio continued to be Maruti’s volume drivers. Together, they registered 66,882 units, up from 60,480 in September 2024, showing that this segment remains the backbone of the brand.

Utility vehicles, which have been a hot favorite in recent years, surprisingly dipped this September. Popular models such as Brezza, Grand Vitara, Ertiga, Fronx, Jimny, XL6, Invicto, and Victoris together accounted for 48,695 units, down from 61,549 units in the same month last year. Vans (Eeco) and light commercial vehicles (Super Carry) also saw slight declines, with 10,035 units and 2,891 units sold, respectively.

In total, domestic passenger vehicle sales fell to 132,820 units compared to 144,962 a year ago, hinting at a slight slowdown in certain categories.

Festive Season Boost

Despite these challenges, the festive season brought cheer for Maruti Suzuki. The company achieved its highest-ever festive deliveries of 1,65,000 units in just the first eight days of Navratri. This surge clearly shows that customer sentiment is turning more positive, aided by the simplified GST regime, attractive offers, and the symbolic importance of buying vehicles during the festive season in India.

Company executives emphasized that domestic wholesale numbers should also be seen in the context of logistical issues that impacted dispatches towards the end of September. Without these constraints, the figures could have been even stronger.

Half-Yearly Trends Show Export Strength

Looking at the broader April–September 2025 period, Maruti Suzuki sold 1,078,735 units, slightly up from 1,063,418 units in the same period last year. While domestic sales slipped to 795,446 units from 844,614 units due to weaknesses in Mini and utility vehicle categories, exports told a different story.

The company exported 207,459 units during the half-year, compared to 148,276 units in April–September 2024. This sharp jump highlights how Maruti is increasingly tapping into global markets to offset domestic slowdowns.

What This Means for India’s Auto Industry

The record-breaking export performance is not just a win for Maruti Suzuki—it’s a positive sign for the Indian automobile industry as a whole. Analysts suggest that this growth could provide a major boost ahead of the festive season, spurring demand and creating momentum in both domestic and global markets.

As India continues to establish itself as a manufacturing hub for automobiles, Maruti’s performance underscores the country’s ability to compete on the global stage. The company’s focus on affordability, reliability, and adaptability to global regulations has allowed it to make significant inroads overseas.

The Road Ahead

For Maruti Suzuki, the challenge will be to balance its strong export momentum with domestic growth. While compact cars are performing well, the declines in mini cars and utility vehicles need to be addressed with refreshed models and new strategies. The festive season is expected to drive strong sales in the coming months, and the company is well-positioned to take advantage of this demand surge.

With logistics bottlenecks easing and customer demand rising, Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming months may witness even stronger figures. The company’s ability to scale exports while also serving its domestic customer base highlights its adaptability in a changing market.
