India-Lebanon Boost Ties with Tourism and Business Seminar
In a heartwarming display of international friendship, the Indian Embassy in Lebanon recently hosted a seminar in Beirut, focusing on the promotion of tourism and business between India and Lebanon. The event was not only a platform to highlight India’s rich cultural heritage and breathtaking destinations but also a stepping stone toward fostering deeper economic and commercial ties between the two nations.
Indian Ambassador Noor Rahman Sheikh, who moderated the panel discussion, emphasized the immense potential that lies in collaboration between India and Lebanon. “India offers a unique blend of heritage, culture, and modern opportunities,” he said. “This seminar is a bridge to bring together the best of tourism and business prospects for both countries.”
The seminar was graced by several dignitaries, including Laura El Khazen Lahoud, Lebanon’s Tourism Minister, who attended as the Chief Guest. MP Ali Oseirran, President of the Lebanese-India Parliamentary Friendship Committee, joined as the Guest of Honour, alongside senior Lebanese officials, representatives from the tourism sector, and prominent business leaders. Their presence highlighted the shared commitment to nurturing bilateral relations and exploring avenues for mutual growth.
In his remarks, Ambassador Sheikh elaborated on India’s varied tourism offerings—from the snow-capped mountains of the Himalayas to the sun-soaked beaches of Goa, and from historic monuments to bustling urban centers. He also underlined India’s growing prominence as a business hub, pointing out opportunities across technology, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, and sustainable industries. “We want Lebanese investors and tourists alike to experience India’s diversity while tapping into its business potential,” Sheikh added.
The seminar builds on a series of initiatives undertaken by the Indian Embassy in Lebanon this year. In March 2025, the Embassy organized a Multi-sectoral Business Seminar in Beirut, aimed at strengthening trade relations. Lebanon’s imports from India reached 337 million US dollars in 2025, up from 323 million dollars in 2024, placing India as the 11th largest import source for the country. These figures reflect a steady and growing economic partnership, providing a strong foundation for future collaborations.
Tourism and trade, though distinct sectors, share a symbiotic relationship in promoting cultural understanding and economic growth. Lebanese participants expressed enthusiasm about India’s offerings, noting that increasing awareness about India’s tourism infrastructure could drive more travel and investments. Similarly, Indian business representatives highlighted opportunities for collaboration in sectors such as IT services, renewable energy, and agro-products, emphasizing how bilateral trade could grow through innovation and shared expertise.
Ambassador Sheikh also emphasized the importance of cultural diplomacy in strengthening international relations. “Tourism is not just about visiting places—it’s about experiencing a country’s soul,” he noted. “By welcoming Lebanese tourists and investors, India opens its heart and its markets, creating a partnership built on trust, curiosity, and opportunity.”
The event also encouraged dialogue on potential policy enhancements, visa facilitation, and joint marketing campaigns aimed at increasing tourism traffic and investment flows. By bringing together government representatives, business leaders, and tourism stakeholders, the seminar created a holistic platform to identify challenges and craft solutions for sustainable engagement.
Lebanon and India share a long-standing relationship that dates back to 1954, establishing a framework of diplomatic collaboration that has withstood decades of global and regional changes. Through initiatives like this seminar, both nations reaffirm their commitment to a future marked by cultural exchange, economic growth, and shared prosperity.
As tourism and business sectors continue to intertwine, events like this seminar pave the way for new opportunities and lasting friendships. By combining India’s vast cultural treasures and economic dynamism with Lebanon’s strategic interests and entrepreneurial spirit, both nations stand to gain immensely from continued collaboration.
This seminar is more than a dialogue—it is a celebration of possibility, signaling that the bonds between India and Lebanon are set to grow stronger in the years ahead.
