Youth are the heartbeat of every society, carrying within them the dreams, energy, and potential that can shape the future. Recognizing this, Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Secretary, Atal Dulloo, has urged that the young generation should not only excel in sports but also be encouraged to pursue their passions in music, arts, and other creative fields. His vision is clear—youth must be empowered with opportunities to discover and develop their talents in whichever domain they feel connected to.
Channelizing Youth Energy Into Creative Pathways
Chairing a review meeting of the Youth Services & Sports Department in Srinagar, Atal Dulloo highlighted the critical role of the department in channelizing the enthusiasm of young people. He emphasized that while sports are a strong pillar for youth development, equal importance must be given to other avenues such as art, music, and culture. According to him, this holistic approach will help nurture a more well-rounded generation that thrives not just on physical fitness but also on creativity and innovation.
This progressive vision was shared in the presence of top officials, including Principal Secretary Finance Santosh D. Vaidya, Commissioner Secretary Youth Services & Sports Yasha Mudgal, and senior representatives from J&K Bank and the Sports Council.
Commitment to Growth and Opportunities
The Chief Secretary reassured the department of full budgetary support to expand youth development initiatives across the Union Territory. He noted that the government is determined to make resources available so that every young person—whether an aspiring athlete, artist, or musician—finds the right platform to showcase their abilities.
Atal Dulloo also advised the department to explore collaborations with premier sports bodies such as the All India Football Federation (AIFF) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). His goal is to bring high-profile sporting events like Khelo India Winter Games and Khelo India Water Sports Festival into Jammu and Kashmir regularly, further putting the region on the national and international map.
Remarkable Achievements and Rising Aspirations
Highlighting the department’s achievements, Commissioner Secretary Yasha Mudgal presented an inspiring picture of how far the region has come. In the current year, J&K’s young athletes have recorded outstanding success, winning 44 Gold, 54 Silver, and 82 Bronze medals. This is a remarkable leap from last year’s tally of 31 Gold, 20 Silver, and 52 Bronze medals.
Among these victories, the international stage too has seen young athletes from J&K shine, with three Gold, one Silver, and one Bronze medal to their credit. These achievements not only bring pride to the Union Territory but also serve as motivation for more youngsters to step forward and pursue their dreams with determination.
Expanding Activities and Infrastructure
The roadmap for the future is equally ambitious. The J&K Sports Council has lined up 79 activities across the Union Territory, including four international events, seven national tournaments, 27 UT-level competitions, 14 league or community activities, and 27 coaching camps. Altogether, these are expected to engage nearly 25 lakh youth—an impressive outreach that reflects the government’s commitment to grassroots development.
On the infrastructure front, the progress is equally promising. Out of 343 capex works planned, 55 projects have already been completed, while another 220 are expected to be finished within this year. These include state-of-the-art stadiums, training facilities, and community grounds designed to provide world-class opportunities for aspiring athletes.
A Vision for a Balanced Tomorrow
Atal Dulloo’s message resonates deeply—it is not only about producing champions in sports but also about creating a society that celebrates diversity of talent. When youth are given the chance to explore music, painting, dance, or theater alongside sports, they build confidence, creativity, and resilience. This blend of physical vigor and artistic expression can help them grow into leaders who are balanced, compassionate, and innovative.
As Jammu and Kashmir continues its journey of transformation, this vision for youth empowerment signals hope and opportunity. With focused efforts in both sports and creative fields, the region is poised to become a hub where young talent flourishes across multiple domains.
